Reading and art promoter. Teacher. He studied theater and education . In 1980 he began his career as a storyteller in Indian villages in Tocantins. He is one of the creators of " Bolsas de lecturas " , with the support of UNICEF and the Universidad de Solidaridad of Brasilia , which established an efficient method to educate readers. Since the 1990’s is "companion" of Ashoka Social Entrepreneurs . His work is nationally and internationally recognized by various governmental and non-governmental organizations , such as UNICEF , Ashoka , Universidad de Solidaridad of Brasilia, Brasilia Arvense School, New York University , among others. The work of Maurice "La leche" is a reference in the world of reading promotion . In Portugal , where he lives since 2005 , has worked in universities, associations and more than 27 libraries , where he has developed numerous initiatives aimed to children , parents and other mediators of reading. Through a process of continuous residence , he has developed reading projects that involve communities , starting from the walls of libraries to satisfy readers . He was nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award in 2012.
